The Vodafone 543 Review - Part two

Sadly Part two will be the conclusion of this device.

The 543 had the ability to be as popular as the nokia 52xx series if the manufacturers would listen to phone geeks they will be onto a winner.

It needs the following to gain a more impressive award from me.

  • Tidy user interface.
  • WMA, AAC and OGG playback (now I'm being geeky)
  • UMTS/WCDMA (3g)
  • Better touch screen and software
Sadly. Alcatel (TCT Mobile International) seem to have utilised a cheaper than chips attitude so parts are known to fail. This is not Vodafone's fault.

The 543 (Actual model OT-706A) with it's 3.5mm headphone jack, MicroSD (to 4gb) and microUSB Charging and data port made it a very impressive device. even I liked it a lot. The interface although featureless it was useful enough to get on with easily.

The main niggle I had with the UI in general was the stripping down Vodafone gave it. The original OT-706A had a much better iconset, despite being a rip off of the Samsung touchwiz interface.

So in general we'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I would also like to thank the Web relation team at Vodafone for helping resolve our issues over the last week. I'm happy to get my son's contract in 5 weeks :)

Paul!
