What is there for children to do in a town these days?
I want to live in a village where the kids could go out and play in the fields and build tree houses like i used to with our little crew when living in Kensworth.
We would be out every night playing, even in the rain. Blatting about on our bikes around one of the small housing estates. Weekends come and we would go to Studham Dell, one of the loveliest places we ever used to play.
Then come Christmas Day we would all grab our bikes and go for a ride, as one of us would get a new one, we would pilfer the parts off there old one to be able to do the ride.
Oh yes memories.
Jump back to 2010 while listening to Fleet foxes. For some strange reason it bought the good memories back and made me think what can my kids do in a smog filled* town like this?
The fields are all under development for housing or sports centers.
The trees are all protected.
Yes i can take them places on the bikes, but then i am still restricted to local with a trailer or back seat or walking with the buggy, then it depends on whether it's suitable for the smaller two.
I could go to places which you pay to play, or see an attraction as Whipsnade Zoo, Snakes and ladders and a few other places are nearby. But, my parents always told me to seize the opportunity for free stuff.
Meaning the local National Trust Estate, Dunstable Downs, Whipsnade Downs and Whipsnade Tree Cathedral are always a good place to get away.
The NT has done a fantastic job of making it child friendly in the respect of new pathways and access. which makes kite flying great for Vee and Lissy
Where do you take your children and is it the free places which appeal more?

I used to take mine to the parks here in Glasgow, the place they liked the most was the Botanic Gardens (probably because of the large greenhouses and tropical plants)
ReplyDeleteI also took them on the odd occasion to Loch Lomond and the surrounding hills (although, the place just ain't the same any-more since they recently developed parts of it)
I also loved taking them to the Museums we have here, Art Galleries, Transport Museum and Hunterian Museum, The Peoples Palace etc.
Oh the fond memories. :D
